Die zwei Hamburger Schülerinnen freuten sich riesig über die Shanghai-Reise. Simone Groß ( 18 ) vom Walddörfer Gymnasium und Michelle Bolten ( 20 ) vom Christianeum Gymnasium waren die glücklichen Gewinner des Hans-Bernd-Giesler-Preises. Beide Schülerinnen lernen an ihren Schulen Chinesisch. Beide waren auch schon in China. Michelle erlebte bei einem Schüleraustausch in Chongqing (Sichuan) 2008 das Erdbeben. Obwohl selber erst 15 Jahre alt, meldete sie sich für die Rettungsaktionen. Noch heute hat sie Kontakte zu den Kindern und Familien. Im Wettbewerb "Chinese Bridge" in Berlin gewann Simone den ersten Preis. Als einzige deutsche Schülerin flog sie zum "Chinese Bridge" – Wettbewerb nach Beijing.
Seit 1985 ist Chinesisch Unterrichtsfach in einigen Hamburger Schulen. Doch bleiben die Schülerzahlen hinter den Erwartungen zurück. Gerade deshalb sind Anreize zur Nachwuchsförderung wichtig.
Mit dem Preis zeichnet die Chinesisch-Deutsche Gesellschaft e.V. Hamburg zwei Schülerinnen aus, die zu den Besten im Fach Chinesisch gehören und die Jury mit klugen Einsichten in die deutsch-chinesischen Beziehungen erfreuten.
In Erinnerung an den Gründer der Chinesisch-Deutschen Gesellschaft (ChDG), dessen Präsident Hans-Bernd Giesler bis 2007 war, fördern die Hamburger das Erlernen der chinesischen Sprache und den Einsatz für die deutsch-chinesische Freundschaft. Dafür setzt sich die ChDG seit 1994 mit zahlreichen Initiativen ein. Hamburg gilt als Hochburg des China-Handels und hat u.a. mit sechs großen China-Festivals den Dialog mit China gefördert.
Der ehemalige Bürgermeister und langjährige Bürgerschaftspräsident der Freien und Hansestadt Hamburg, Dr. Peter Schulz , war Sprecher der Jury und gratulierte den Schülerinnen zu ihrem Erfolg. Dr. Schulz ist mit seinen 81 Jahren immer noch aktiv im deutsch-chinesischen Austausch und für seine Anwaltssozietät Schulz • Noack • Bärwinkel mit Niederlassungen in Hamburg, Rostock und Shanghai.
Der Giesler-Preis besteht aus zwei Flugreisen Hamburg-Shanghai-Hamburg und der Teilnahme an einem Sommercamp für Jugendliche in Shanghai. Das „2011 Shanghai International Youth Interactive Friendship Camp“ organisiert die Shanghai People’s Friendship Association for Foreign Countries“. Empfänge, Stadtrundfahrten, Ausflüge und die Begegnung mit Gastfamilien in Shanghai runden das Programm für Jugendliche ab.
